Crowds filled the main mosque of the Afghan capital of Kabul, some spilling out into the surrounding courtyard, for the first Friday prayer of Ramadan and listened to a message of peace and a welcoming of foreigners in the Friday sermon.

" Fasting is good for us. We can learn patience and an understanding of how it is to be hungry," said Dr. Muhammed Ayaz Nyazi, the Imam of Wazir Akbar Khan Mosque in his sermon before the prayer.

Foreign people can live in these lands as long as they do not harm us. We should treat them fairly because this one of Islam's tenets. We should not make concessions about justice, we must give the right to whosoever is in front of us if they are right," he added.

" As long as foreigners do not touch our religion or our possessions or force us to leave, they may live with us as neighbors," he said.
