Employees at the branch said the white sheets were a new procedure, and customers who had been unable to buy alcohol during Ramazan in previous years would now be able to lift the sheets and buy alcohol if they wanted to. "This same procedure is also implemented in other branches. This is common practice during the holy month of Ramazan," one employee said.

Branches in Mecidiyeköy and Sultanahmet were not following such a procedure. Aside from the Bakırköy branch, the 13 branches across Istanbul denied having ever blocking off their alcohol sections during Ramazan.

General Director for Greens Supermarket, Mr. Bilgin, stated, 'It's the fault of the employees of this particular branch. The paper will be removed."
