| Four warnings |
The chairman of ASAMBLE made four significant warnings in a period when the debates on headscarf and secularism are hot. 1. If Turkey inclines to be an Islamic state, forget EU. 2. If the change in the constitution is not compatible with European Agreement, we will take it into an investigation at Venetian Commission. 3. The ones subject to pressure for wearing a headscarf should apply the European Court of Human Rights. 4. The universities objecting to the ban on wearing headscarf can also apply European Court of Human Rights. |
Forget EU if secularism is impaired
The Dutch chairman Linden said: "if Turkey inclines to be an Islamic state, EU membership will be a dream.""I am a devout Catholic; however, I do not let religion interfere with politics. I understand the fear in some Turks' hearts. If Turkey wants to be a part of Europe, state and religion should be separate."
